New Artland

New Artland is a TVNZ art series in which epic works of art are created in front of the cameras. For each series thirteen of New Zealand's leading contemporary artists were invited to choose a region or community in Aotearoa that they have a personal connection with, and create a new artwork with the help of locals from that chosen community. New Artland documents the journey from the artist's studio to the final unveiling, capturing both the artistic process and the experiences of the general public as they become involved with the work. New Artland is hosted by musician and cartoonist Chris Knox.

Season 1 , 1 Episode 11Wednesday 10 December 2014This episode: in episode eleven of New Artland, Samoan/Ngai Tahu artist Lonnie Hutchinson creates Peace Piece. Lonnie wanted to create a giant lei from wire and flowers to hang over a precious bridge in Christchurch, in the lead up to Anzac Day. All was going well until the harsh reality of resource consents set in. Stuck with several thousand live pansies, Hutchinson has to quickly re-think the project, roping in the district of Lyttleton, a helicopter and an entire local school.
