To celebrate 50 years of Te Matatini (originally known as the 'New Zealand Polynesian Festival', then later as the 'Aotearoa Traditional Māori Performing Arts Festival') Te Matatini has created an album that holds 50 waiata from the past 50 years, split into three categories. This is a series of behind the scenes short films documenting the making of the album.
The second category, Te Matakāinga, represents 13 waiata from each of the 13 Te Matatini rohe will be re-recorded by a select group of kaihaka from across the motu in kapa haka format.
