Ārepa feels betrayed by those around her. Rōhana is cyber stalking her, her mother is cutting off her financial support and everyone except India thinks she shouldn’t be going to Antarctica.
With India’s help and research money from Dr Sabine, Ārepa has finally found a way to get to Antarctica. However mysterious forces seem determined to stop her.
Ārepa Simmons feels like her world is going crazy. Lacking all motivation for a future she’s been working towards for years, she's awakened when she receives a mysterious taonga.
Ārepa is still convinced someone is following her but lets her friends distract her from her worries with a party. Everything seems to go well until an uninvited guest makes an eerie appearance.
A series of unnerving experiences has Ārepa starting to believe her friends are right - she is doing too much. Nothing is stacking up and she has no real answers.
On edge and rattled, Ārepa retrieves the hei tiki back from the strange Dr Sabine. However even once she has it back she can’t shake the uneasy feeling that something isn’t right.
Determined to understand the whakapapa of the mysterious taonga, Ārepa does some research and discovers the tohunga in her dreams is somehow linked to the hei tiki.
Ārepa’s connection with her tipuna Tūmatakōkiri is giving her new found strength and confidence, which is just as well given the danger she keeps finding herself in.
Dreams and reality keep merging for Ārepa and while the party seemed like a good distraction, Ārepa is starting to realise she can’t escape whatever it is that is happening.
