Season 2018 , Episode 54Ngā Tūmanako was originally founded for and by foundation students of Te Kura Kaupapa Māori o Hoani Waititi Marae. The group aims to promote the survival of Te Reo Māori and the Māori culture through the medium of performing arts. 2017 is the sixth time that Ngā Tūmanako has performed at Te Matatini since their inception in 2005. -
Kapa Haka Regionals 2018 - Tāmaki Makaurau Te Manu Huia
Season 2018 , Episode 55Tutored by te whānau Wehi, this kapa has their sights fixed on Te Matatini 2017 in the Hawkes Bay region. The Kaitātaki tane for the group is Kingi Makoare and Moeahu Kerehoma will stand as Kaitātaki wahine. Tawhiri Ruru will take a key role as the kaikōrero of the kapa. The group has accompanied its senior kapa, Te Waka Huia, to the national competition eight times. -

Season 2018 , Episode 56The West-Auckland group was first established in 2010 and have been strong contenders at the regional competitions. They are well-known for their expertise in mau rākau. The group is led by Hemi Tai Tin and his wife Ngahiriwa Tai Tin. They both also tutor the group alongside Mau TaiTin, Wiremu Tai Tin and Karina Ratima. -
Kapa Haka Regionals 2018 - Ngāti Kahungungu Te Kapa Haka o Ngāti Ranginui
Season 2018 , Episode 45Hailing from Tauranga Moana, The team was established by the late Naisey Rihi Ngatoko to bring together the hapū and marae of Ngāti Ranginui in the Tauranga Moana region. Her vision also included maintaining the ancestral links of Ranginui to the Takitimu region, as their ancestor Ranginui was the older sibling to Kahungunu. "I te ngaro a Ngāti Ranginui ka kitea, ka kitea, ka kitea," is the rōpū mission statement and signifies the development of the iwi teachings, history, whakapapa and taonga for future generations. It’s also a legacy the late Te Awanuiārangi Black strived for and demonstrated in the Pukehinahina and Te Ranga commemorations. -

Season 2018 , Episode 46Whāngārā-Mai-Tawhiti was first established in 1961, and then revived in 1976. The group as we know it today, was formed in 1995, following requests from local Whāngārā elders who wished to keep the customs and traditions of Ngāti Konohi alive. Under the tutelage of renowned Māori culture exponent, Derek Lardelli, Whāngārā have cemented their presence at national level over the years. -

The message they bring to the stage today is "Te whakatipu, te whakahika i ngā wana ō Waioweka kia tū rangatira." Whānau of Waioweka had wanted to establish a group for a long time in rememberance of Eric Kurei who taught many of the kaihaka when they attended school in Ōpōtiki. -

Season 2018 , Episode 11Formed in 1997, Te Reanga Mōrehu have consistently placed among the top groups of the Aotea region, 2017 is their sixth appearance at national level. Te Reanga Mōrehu o Rātana have worked hard to retain their dialect and uphold the teachings of Tahupōtiki Wiremu Rātana, prophet and founder of the Rātana religion. The group also acknowledge their religious ties through the moon and star symbolism seen on their uniforms. -
