A BBC documentary series with a broad remit of geography, anthropology and natural history subjects.

  • 1For King and Country The Kingdom of Tonga won a romantic place in the British imagination 30 years ago when its monarch, Queen Salote, paraded at the coronation of Britain's own Queen in London. On that day a popular legend was born: a British daydream of a palm-fringed kingdom where an island people, untouched by progress and materialism, lived in simple harmony under the wise and benevolent rule of the Polynesian Royal Family. But Tonga today - the real Tonga - is a troubled place. Michael Dean examines the tensions and contradictions of this Pacific kingdom.
