Maia, an attractive, artistic mother of two young children and wife to Tama, is constantly disturbed by dreams of a certain young man. Kahu, a carver in his own right is haunted by the image of Maia, and decides one morning to walk out on his fiance. He hitches a ride to where ever, which happens to be the town where Maia and her family live. Are these two young people destined to re-enact the love story of their ancestors? Maia is caught between past and present when Kahu threatens to come between her and her husband.
