New research based in Canterbury has found that despite men being more likely to suffer heart disease and many common cancers, there is much more targeting of women in health promotion. It backs other research from the European Mens' Health Forum which finds that in New Zealand mens' health receives little attention as a public health issue.

2Is a radical rethink of agriculture needed this century in order to secure enough food for the planet? The United States' State Department's chief scientist thinks it is. Nina Fedoroff says immediate action must be taken to secure future food supplies, and that the United States needs to lead the way by overhauling its regulatory framework in light of the excellent safety record of genetically engineered crops.
