  • 1Should mothers of abused children be tracked by the state, and an official alert be raised if the woman has another child? It's one reccomendation in a new report on the Experts Forum on Child Abuse. Currently when a child dies from the result of child abuse the file held by official agencies is closed; the view by the group however is that the file should stay open and that much more formal information sharing should be able to take place betwen a wider range of agencies.

  • 2The reputation of the world's top car manufacturer has taken a hammering in recent weeks. Toyota has recalled 8.5-million cars in the past weeks mostly in the United States, for acceleration and braking problems in a widening safety crisis. There have only been 321-recalls in New Zealand this year. Michael Cusumano is a consultant for Ford and Fiat and author of several books on the car industry including "The Japanese Automobile Industry: Technology and Management at Nissan and Toyota." He speaks to Nine to Noon.
