Ibrahim Elmetri grew up and was educated in Tripoli, Libya, and left in 1984 as a 23-year old as he was unable to work within the regime. He now works as an international aquatic sciences consultant, based in New Zealand.

  • 2The principal scientist with GNS Science, and project leader of the team that has been 3D mapping the bottom of Lake Rotomahana, near Rotorua talks about finding the remains of the Pink, and eventually parts of the White Terraces. The research at this time depended on the availability of specialised and sophisticated pieces of equipment like robotic underwater devices. They only had 10-days to complete the investigation at the site, and this was weather dependent.
