Wendy Duff, mother of a 17-year-old with severe autism who is on the waiting list for respite care and president of Autism New Zealand. The issue made headlines 14 years ago when Fielding woman Janine Albury-Thomson killed her autistic daughter Casey. Her defence was that she was driven to desperation trying to get respite care, and the case sparked an inquiry but little has changed since.
