David Godfrey was a member of the New Zealand Security Service who enrolled at the University in 1962 but his activities on campus began to cause tension. A student journal, Outspoke, published a front page article, ‘OUR MAN IN PRINCES STREET’,
revealing that Godfrey had attempted to spy on two visiting Russian students and was interested in the students who were enrolling for a trip to China and Russia.
