This is a reading of part of Nelson Mandela's statement from the dock at the opening of his trial defence on 20 April 1964. It is not Mandela's voice as no recording was released at the time of the trial. In 1962 Nelson Mandela was was arrested by South African security police for his opposition to the white government and its apartheid policies. Further charges included sabotage, high treason and conspiracy to overthrow the government.
