  • 1C.K. Stead has just published his sixth novel, The Singing Whakapapa, which continues what one New Zealand reviewer calls the contemporary novelist's torrid affair with the 19th century. The book covers over 150 years of history of the missionary and farmer John Flatt, as told by his great-great-grandson Hugo Wolf Grady, who tries to make sense of his own life through history.
