Te Hikuwai was first in established 2009 and are linked to the Te Arawa hapū of Ngāti Pikiao, Ngāti Tamateatuatahi, Ngāti Kawiti, Ngāti Hinekura and Ngāti Rangiunuora. The group qualified for 2017 Te Matatini at the 2016 Te Arawa Kapa Haka regionals in fifth place.
