Hathi (1998)
Growing up in a village in southern India, Makbul cares for an elephant named Vikrama. Over the objections of his mother, Makbul follows in the footsteps of his father and grandfather to become a mahout - elephant handler for the government. Years later the government sells the elephant in an auction. Makbul is told to deliver Vikrama to the buyer, but he soon realizes that the buyer does not have the elephant's best interests at heart.
