1Six people were taken to hospital after a fire in waste magnesium at an Auckland Factory today. Fireman were unable to use water on the fire as it would explode, so instead they had to smother it with sand.

2A recent Auckland City Council decision to allow paddle boats on the lakes at Western Springs Park is being protested against with people saying the natural atmosphere at the lakes will be destroyed.

3The Government will soon introduce legislation requiring private swimming pools to be fenced. In Hamilton the Deputy Mayor says the government "has a cheek" trying to force this on local bodies.

4The original owners of sixteen cottages in Grey Lynn, which were taken over by the Auckland City Council during the depression when the owners could not pay their mortgages, now need to be traced. The mortgages on the cottages have now been paid off but people renting them fear they may be evicted.

5Electricity authorities are getting increasing numbers of power cuts caused by trees from shelter belts touching power lines.

6Trade Unionist, Sonia Davies, has published a new book "Bread and Roses" but she had a difficult job coming up with the title.
