  • 2Age of Consent A desperate campaign is under way to prevent homosexuality becoming legal. Opponents of the Homosexual Law Reform Bill, now before Parliament, are insisting that the country should decide the issue by referendum. But if Parliament is to make the decision, even the Bill's most vehement opponents concede that it will be passed. The major question now appears to be the age of consent. The Bill stipulates 16 as the age of consent. Opponents say this is too young to be certain of one's sexual orientation, but 16 is the general age of consent and and supporters say raising the age would be discriminatory against homosexuals.
