Television New Zealand's hour-long weekly current affairs programme presenting mini-documentaries on topical local issues.

  • 1Prisoners in Paradise The National emblem of Papua New Guinea is the Bird of Paradise, but to many at the moment, a roll of barbed wire might be more appropriate. Much of the population is living in terror behind barricades - their response to the violent robberies and sexual crimes that have almost become commonplace. Two especially horrifying cases of gang rape involving New Zealand women and young children were in part responsible for a public outcry. The Government's response was to impose a state of emergency. In Port Moresby Police and the Army have been mobilised to subdue roaming gangs of youths known as Raskols.

  • 2Room at the Top At a little-publicised breakfast meeting at last year's Economic Summit ten of New Zealand's industrial leaders met with Women's Affairs Minister Ann Hercus, and promised their support for affirmative action for women. However, the Government seems to prefer gentle persuasion to enforcement by new laws. However, two New Zealand companies have launched their own form of affirmative action, an award for women who have made it to the top. But is legislation needed to give women a fair chance to succeed in business and industry?
