  • 1A small start has been made on clearing the rubbish from the streets of Manukau City as it has been decreed a public health nuisance. It has piled up in an industrial dispute.

  • 2Waiheke Island has a new police station which was officially opened today. Cabinet ministers attending were greeted by teachers from the local school protesting about their salary claim.

  • 3Land yachting is a new activity on Ninety Mile beach and at present there are 'sailors' from all over the world competing in races. However, its history on the beach goes back to the early missionaries.

  • 4Donkey power is making a comeback at Mangawhai Heads in Northland, and the local owners are using them for every day transport like going shopping. However, motion is no guarantee of direction.

  • 5Police Five 1. There have been 15 armed hold ups in the Auckland area and a special squad has been set up to investigate these. -- 2. A Phase 2 sailing dingy has been stolen from Remuera. --3. Police Five deputies awarded for reporting a stolen motorcycle.
