1Two senior Philippines Defence chiefs are demanding that President Ferdinand Marcos resign from office. Surrounded by thousands of civilian supporters, the Defence Minister and the Acing Armed Forces Chief, have vowed to fight to the death if Marcos moves against them. Some senior Ministers in the Marcos Government have openly defected to the rebels' side and the Senior Cardinal of the Catholic Church has encouraged everyone to support the rebellion. New Zealanders have been warned to avoid travel to the Philippines until the situation calms down.
2Israel has called off the huge search for two of its kidnapped soldiers and withdrawn all of its soldiers from Southern Lebanon.
3Queen Elizabeth II is tonight aboard the Royal Yacht Britannia in Auckland. The Royal yacht was delayed arriving in New Zealand by five days because it had been instrumental in helping evacuees escape South Yemen.
4The police manhunt for three armed men near Ruatoria is virtually over, with two of the three fugitives in custody. However, tension in the town remains high after a house fire at a Rastafarian address, suspected to be arson.
