  • 1Contrary to earlier reports, Philippines President Ferdinand Marcos remains in the country,and has appeared on live State television to declare a state of emergency and to promise that he would quell the armed rebellion over his Government. However, rebel forces attacked the television station and stopped the broadcast. Prime Minister David Lange has called on President Marcos to leave the Philippines, and says the Government has plans in place to evacuate any New Zealanders currently in the Philippines, should it become necessary.
