However, a political storm has broken out in the United Kingdom over the use of British air bases for mounting American attacks.The Soviet Union has called off a planned meeting between its Foreign Minister and United States Secretary of State George Shultz. Israel has called the American attack "an act of self defense" but has denied any involvement in the bombing.
