  • 1America's Cup Challenge It seems as though all of New Zealand is on the edge of their seats, waiting for the America's Cup Challenge to begin in Fremantle, and cheering on New Zealand yacht KZ7. However, the America's Cup sometimes appears to be less of a sporting event and more of a multi million dollar publicity campaign for rich businessmen, using taxpayer funds to sponsor their extravagant leisure pursuits. On the other hand, a challenge such as this could be worth billions of dollars to New Zealand's economy should KZ7 bring the cup back with them. Politicians and businessmen also wax lyrical about the potential benefits for New Zealand if we win. Is this a yacht race, or more of a display of Kiwi expertise, enterprise and endurance? Would the money that is poured into the America's Cup be better spent on trying to combat social problems here in New Zealand? Discussion and viewer feedback with Aussie Malcolm, the first director and fundraiser for the New Zealand America's Cup challenge.
