  • 1Fluoridation New Zealanders seem to be unable to reach agreement on the issue of fluoridation. The addition of fluoride to the public water supply promotes healthy teeth and is virtually unanimously supported by dentists and other medical professionals. However opponents claim fluoride is dangerous, may cause cancer and that its supposed beneficial effects are greatly exaggerated. They believe having its added to the public water supply is in invasion of their civil liberties, and that those who want additional fluoride should obtain it through supplements and toothpastes. Some local councils have decided to stop fluoridation of their water following low voter turnout at referendums. However, should matters to do with the public good be decided by a well-meaning, but possibly inexpert public lobby? Discussion and viewer feedback with Professor Harvey Brown, who strongly advocates the addition of fluoride in public water supply.
