  • 1Christmas Care for the Needy For an increasing number of New Zealanders, the Christmas season brings with it misery and despair. Thousands of people struggle with the pressures of the festive season - the tension within families, those who are lonely, the unemployed. For many, rather than being a time of joy and peace and goodwill, Christmas is a time of stress and misery and desperation. Perhaps this is society's fault for turning a religious festival into a commercial money spinner. Discussion and viewer talkback with Salvation Army representative Major David Bennett, who believes that increasingly, the lack of money is the cause of most of the seasonal misery.
