Television New Zealand's flagship evening news bulletin.

  • 1Earthquakes measuring between 3 and 4 on the Richter Scale continue to shake the Eastern Bay of Plenty, but Civil Defence authorities believe the occasion for serious concern has now passed. The state of emergency will remain in force until tomorrow, and will be reviewed again tomorrow morning. Prime Minister David Lange visited the region today, and has launched an Eastern Bay of Plenty Relief Fund. The Government will match each donation. Today the effects of yesterday's earthquake became even more apparent as the massive clean-up effort began. In Kawerau, allegations of shop owners profiteering from the earthquake have surfaced. Government agencies such as the Earthquake and War Damage Commission and the the Department of Social Welfare (DSW) have put procedures in place to help the earthquake victims.
