  • 1Breaking News Fijian Prime Minister Dr Timoci Bavadra and 27 of his MPs have been taken at gunpoint from Parliament to an army camp in Suva, after a colonel and 10 masked soldiers burst into Parliament during a sitting. Fiji Radio has broadcast an announcement saying that the Fiji Armed Forces have taken control of the GOvernment and that Colonel Sitiveni Rabuka has asked the Governor General for recognition of the military Government. Rabuka has given assurances that no one will be harmed, and has called for calm. he will hold a news conference in around 30 minutes. Meanwhile, Prime Minister David Lange has given a news conference with the latest details. He says the New Zealand Government is not recognising the military Government.
