1Don't Celebrate '88 "Don't Celebrate '88" has become the catch-cry of Australia's Aborigines in Australia's bi-centennial year. They claim Black history stretches back forty thousand years - not two hundred - and that they have never relinquished title to what remains of their land. Without any constitutional base or anything resembling the Treaty of Waitangi, protest has become their main weapon in their struggle for recognition. While the rest of Australia indulges in celebrations, Aborigines are using the bi-centennial stage as a platform from which to make their voices heard.
