  • 1Unemployment in New Zealand (Part One) Rex Jones, the President of the New Zealand Labour Party, today told the Government that it has its priorities wrong. Rampant unemployment was too high a price for cutting back inflation. Full employment was a basic party principle which the Government had forgotten. The Government's 'pain before gain' policy is clearly wearing thin, with many calling for the relaxing of hardline economic policies that are believed to be at the root of today's record unemployment figures.
