  • 1The Government has decided to deregulate broadcasting. It will abolish the warrants or licenses needed before a radio station or television channel can be establish, opening up the possibility of satellite, cable or user-pays television, as well as local or regional services. TVOne, TV2 and several radio networks will remain in public ownership. Reaction has been mixed, but most industry leaders believe it is a step in the right direction.
