1Prime Minister David Lange's Mangere electorate is a microcosm of the issues confronting South Auckland communities such as low income, rising unemployment and an education system that does not appear to be working for many students. The area is rife with crime, drug abuse and racial tension. Maori and Pacific Islanders appear to be especially affected.
