The Challenge - a panel show which examines a series of current issues affecting Maori.

  • 1The rapidly expanding empire of Fletcher Challenge Limited is the major player in exploiting New Zealand's natural resources. The company touches the lives of all New Zealanders, but for Maori, their commercial trust is especially significant. Under the Treaty of Waitangi, tribes were guaranteed full exclusive rights to their land, forests and fisheries. However, sometimes Maori find themselves competing for resources with companies like Fletcher Challenge and at other times, they feel a responsibility to act as guardians for the natural environment. Studio interview with Hugh Fletcher, Chairman of Fletcher Challenge Limited.
