  • 2Justice on Trial Marae justice: what is it, and how would it work? The answers to those questions depend a great deal on who you ask. Frontline follows the case of Frances Shaw, the man who fasted for 49 days as a way of sending a message to the Government that he wanted to be tried on a marae. This week Shaw was sentenced to three years in prison on serious firearms charges. Not by a marae, but by the High Court in Wellington. His plea had fallen on deaf ears. But even so, he has pledged to continue his fight for marae justice from behind bars.
