  • 1Fatal Attraction Remember the Marlboro men? Those cowboy hunks with big horses and bigger hats who tried and obviously succeeded to turn people on to cigarettes? Well, there was this reporter who went to talk to the cowboys themselves, to see what they were really like. He discovered that like most men of their time, they smoked. But what he also found was that the product they had helped to glamourize and sell, was killing them with cancer. Tonight, a report on how the purveyors of tobacco keep their industry alive, while so many of their customers are dying. It is an issue, because Minister of Health Helen Clark is considering a recommendation from the Toxic Substances Board that all tobacco advertising and promotion should be banned by the end of the year. In 1986, the Board also recommended a ban, but the Government took little action. The tobacco industry won that round, but will it win this one?
