1Police were warned that Maori activists might resort to violence to disrupt the Commonwealth Games, so early this morning they raided the homes of some Auckland activists, seizing two rifles. However, these are not believed to be connected to activists in any way. The activists say that rather than celebrating 150 years since the signing of Te Tiriti O Waitangi (Treaty of Waitangi), they are marking 150 years of pakeha oppression. The police say the dawn raids are part of an ongoing process to quell violent protest at the Commonwealth Games.
