Announcer: “Act New Zealand, because this election is about values, not politics.”
Act New Zealand. Values. Not politics.
The Hon. Richard Prebble CBE. Leader- Act New Zealand: “New Zealanders are recognising that Act has the policies and the people to make a difference. To put values into Parliament and take the politics out. Act has simple, workable solutions to the key issues facing New Zealand today.
Announcer: “Act New Zealand was started just over two years ago by two remarkable New Zealanders, Sir Roger Douglas and the Honourable Derek Quigley. Today, Act has over 14,000 everyday kiwis who share the same values and vision for New Zealand, where hard work is encouraged and recognised. Thrift is rewarded, where individuals take responsibility for their lives, rather than expecting government to do so.
Values
“Nine of our top twenty list candidates are women. Taking them to Parliament will really change the way things happen there. Act’s leading women candidates met at Parliament to talk about Act and the issues in this election.”
Why Act?
Val Wilde – Senior list candidate: “I think health is one of the key issues. I think everyone wants to be healthy, and yet everyone knows someone who is sitting on a waiting list.
Health
Prebble: “In health, Act wants to give all New Zealanders the chance to take out private health insurance by letting you choose the system that you want to cover you and your family.
Choice
“But we won’t insist you pay twice, as you do now. We are giving you the choice.”
Flat Tax and Superannuation.
Anne Dell. Spokesperson on Environment and Conservation: “The key issue I think is to push forward our progressive policies, especially in the flat tax area, and in the superannuation.”
Marlene Lamb – Senior list candidate: “It is the one thing that is going to give security to all New Zealanders, especially the young people that are growing up with their families.”
Prebble: “In tax reform, Act proposes a flat tax of 19.5%. Of that 7% will go into a superannuation fund of your choice. So you can enjoy a super plan the same as the MPs. And we will abolish the surcharge.
Act New Zealand. Values. Not politics.
“Act is committed to keeping New Zealanders on the right economic track through our fundamental support of the four pillars of our economic reform.”
Rural New Zealand
The Hon. Ken Shirley. Deputy Leader- Act New Zealand. “The high dollar, the artificially high dollar that is hurting our exporters, that is based on excessive government spending and flab in government.”
Prebble: “Act won’t tinker with our economic success, and we won’t let the left hack it around. We will keep National honest to its stated commitment to the economy.”
Your MMP insurance.
“Unless we continue the process of reform, into other key areas of social policy: health, education, welfare, and superannuation, we run the risk of not sharing New Zealand’s successes across the community.”
Marilyn Thomas – Senior list candidate: “Continued economic stability, because that is a must, and progressive social change.”
Prebble: “Social reform is integrally linked to economic reform.”
Education
Prebble: “In education Act believes that education funds should follow the child, so parents will be given the means to make the choices by funding children not institutions.
Fairness with opportunity
Prebble: “New Zealanders value fairness. And that is why Act will ensure that there is always a safety net to help those who can’t assist themselves through difficult times or with challenging circumstances. Act will make sure that every welfare dollar spent only goes to those truly in need. Act’s policies are designed to achieve this, while creating the opportunities for beneficiaries to escape welfare dependency.”
Choice
Prebble: “Act will take people from dependency to independency.”
Making MMP work
“What we need to do is to make sure there is an end to the bickering and fighting that most people associate with this Parliamentary chamber.”
Merania Karauria – Senior list candidate. “Turn up, be in the debating chamber, no empty seats, and be accountable.”
Dr Muriel Newman. Spokesperson on Welfare. “I’m really just an ordinary mum like a lot of mums around New Zealand and I really don’t believe Parliament has had enough representation from people like me.”
Prebble: “By voting Act on the party list, you can put values into Parliament, rather than voting for politics as usual.”
Make your vote Act on the party list.
Prebble: “Splitting your vote, to give Act New Zealand your party vote, is your insurance that economic stability and sensible, progressive social reform, can be achieved. Act is committed to making MMP work. Making the Parliament honest, and ensuring that Parliament is about debate and finding workable answers to the issues that we face together.
Act New Zealand. Values. Not politics.
Announcer: “Act New Zealand, because this election is not about politics as usual. Act, values not politics.”
