1Breaking the Links | Breaking The Bonds The Thai sex scene - literally a jail for young girls (many underage children) kept as "sex-slaves" against their will. Cops go undercover to expose the perpetrators and bring them to justice as part of the International Justice Mission. Correspondent: Cameron Bennett Producer: Max Adams All over the world there are tens of thousands of women and children being subjected to the ultimate in cruelty, and exploited beyond comprehension. They are bought and sold, forced into prostitution and slavery - in a way that you or I might haggle over a used car. But not everyone is letting this go by without acting. The International Justice Mission is an organisation that uses hard core, modern-policing methods to make a difference. They're working on 'Breaking the Bonds' and freeing these people from their inhumane situations. Their missions are specific - to seek justice and rescue the oppressed. In a recent mission to Thailand a New Zealand cop, Gary Shaw, a Detective Constable from Christchurch who volunteered his own time undercover in Bangkok, joined the IJM. What he discovered was appalling, shocking and almost unbelievable. Boys as young as three and four being used for sex - as well as women being kept in jail-like situations as prostitutes. Kiwi and Aussie men are even caught on camera - boasting about their exploits. Cameron Bennett talks with Gary and his colleague's men about what difference their organisation is making, and the hard road those involved must travel to fight for justice. [20/05/01]
2A Fair Fight Female boxing - a tough new sport that is sweeping the world. It is brutal and violent with an Australian boxer left in a coma last month - should it be banned? Interview with Laila Ali, Muhammad Ali's daughter. Correspondent: Liz Hayes Producer: Gareth Harvey, Stephen Taylor She has the knockout looks of a model and the knockout punch of her dad. She is Laila Ali. In America, it is the daughters, not the sons, who are following in their fathers' famous footsteps. Laila Ali, Freda Foreman and Jacqui Frazier represent a growing band of women worldwide taking to the brutal sport of boxing. The blow to the head that put a West Australian woman into a coma recently has inevitably led to calls for female boxing to be banned. But, as Liz Hayes reports, Laila and others say that's pure sexism - for them, a woman's place is in the ring - and they deserve 'A Fair Fight'. [20/05/01]
