  • 1Mary and Moses Two children from the Solomon Islands with deforming diseases are to fly to NZ for operations, thanks to money raised by NZers. The cameras follow them on their journey. Correspondent: Janet McIntyre To overcome adversity and triumph, literally in the face of grotesque deformity has been a dream turned reality for two children from the Solomon Islands - 'Mary and Moses'. 60 Minutes first met the pair last year, while visiting the Islands with a team of plastic surgeons. While, at that time, nothing could be done for Moses a start was made to correct Mary's gross facial deformity. New Zealanders saw they had suffered more than most - and that all they wanted was a chance to be normal. Following correspondent Janet McIntyre's initial 60 Minutes story, viewers were moved to donate more than $10,000 to a fund, aimed at bringing Mary and Moses back to New Zealand for further treatment. Virtual outcasts in their villages, life for Mary and Moses has been sheltered and hidden, with shock and horror being a common reaction to their deformities. But all that has changed thanks to the generosity of many New Zealanders and some of our leading surgeons and hospitals. Janet McIntyre returned to the Islands to bring Mary and Moses back to New Zealand - where they received a life transforming gift. [22/07/01]

  • 2A Good Joke CF Goldie (formerly Karl Sim) is a notorious NZ art forger who has conned many of the experts. Profile and interview. Correspondent: Cameron Bennett The New Zealand art community had never seen the likes of it before. It was the biggest art fraud of last century, but the unlikely perpertrator behind the whole fiasco was none other than an elderly character from Foxton, having 'A Good Joke'. Karl Sim was the artist who'd turned his hand to faking a variety of famous artists - C.F. Goldie, Francis Hodgkins and Van der Veldons. He's even changed his name by deed poll to C.F. Goldie, a particular favourite of his. After an extensive police investigation he was finally caught - fined and given 200 hours of community service. Cameron Bennett caught up with Goldie, now living up Puhoi way, and chatted with the man who has conned and irritated many of the significant art dealers in the country - and Bennett discovered Goldie hasn't finished with the joke just yet. • 3Wild Child Profile of Hollywood actress Angelina Jolie. Correspondent: Peter Overton Every now and then, Hollywood produces a rare star - someone a little wild, a lot different - a 'Wild Child', someone like Angelina Jolie. The celebrity daughter of Hollywood's original Midnight Cowboy, John Voigt. Her father emotionally describes her as a vibrant individual who needs all the best encouragement, advice and protection people can offer. She has the usual Hollywood star qualities - talent and sensational looks - but they come wrapped in a most unusual and bizarre package. There are the tattoos, the rodents, the gifts of blood and the blood pact she shares with her actor husband, Billy Bob Thornton. Peter Overton interviews Angelina and discovers that she is even more wild and delightfully weird than even her animated alter-ego, Tomb Raider's Lara Croft. [22/07/01]
