1It's a Jungle in There They are sick, vulnerable and at risk. They do the crime, but should they be locked up and exposed to the rawness and hardship of prison life? One family tells Sunday their "sick" brother pleaded for help from jail, no-one listened and now he's dead. Another family fears their son won't survive his sentence either. He's just been given four years. But is he criminal or is he sick? Should a prison sentence be a death sentence?
2Proof of Life Nigel Brennan was a photo journalist who plied his trade in the lawless African state of Somalia, where piracy and kidnapping are the currency. He was taken hostage, pistol whipped, shackled and held for ransom. His life became worth $1.5 million. "You have to pay otherwise they're going to kill me," Brennan pleaded with his folks back in Australia. It's the story of how a government couldn't or wouldn't help. It's the story of the pain and anguish one family went through as they bargained for a life.
3Living History It's a small but significant legacy of the Moriori of the Chatham Islands, artwork etched into the bark of trees on the island. But the trees are dying and the precious carvings could have been lost for all time. Now "rescue archaeology" comes to the rescue. DOC and the University of Otago armed with a 3-D laser scanner will capture images that will last long beyond the life of the trees.
