1The Big Gamble The government is planning to do a deal - it will change the law to allow Sky City to have more pokie machines in exchange for a new convention centre in Auckland. Sky City would build the $350 million convention centre, in return it would get to install up to 500 extra pokie machines. Some say it's a deal with the devil. Pokies are already thought to be responsible for a considerable amount of problem gambling in New Zealand. Derryn didn't know it at the time but his donor was a criminal and a drug-taker, just the kind of bloke he would have railed against on his radio show. Not only that, when they carried out the surgery, the doctors couldnt guarantee Derryn that he wouldnt contract a deadly disease such as hepatitis or HIV.

Bob Simon sits down with Carlsen, known as the "Mozart of chess.
