The Nation is TV3's in-depth political current affairs show focusing on the major players and forces that shape New Zealand.

  • 1The future of the Tiwai Point aluminium smelter is in trouble, and with it, the future of the Government's asset sales. Talks between Meridian Energy and RioTinto, the owners of the smelter, have broken down and the Government says it is stepping in to help the parties reach an agreement. Tiwai Point consumes around 15% of New Zealand's power and its closure would mean a massive gap in the market - an electricity overhang that would lower power prices for everyone. None of this is good news for the partial privatisation of the State Owned Enterprises. Interview with Tiwai Point's former Managing Director, Kerry McDonald.
