The two brothers, Damien and George Nepata were seriously injured while serving in the army. Committee chair Tau Henare says all members agreed there should be a pay-out, however they have left it up to the government to decide on the level. Damien Nepata suffered extensive burns in 1994 when the tank he was driving in Waiouru overturned. His brother George is a tetraplegic after falling from a stretcher during an exercise in Singapore in 1989. A new focus and direction for Whanau ora was announced today A new focus and direction for Whanau ora was announced today by Minister Tariana Turia. It will change how Whanau ora is provided. It aims to improve the effectiveness of the programme and give more responsibility to whanau. Irena Smith has the details, she joins us from Wellington. This has been Tariana Turia's project from the beginning, and it's been about focusing on Maori Health and Wellbeing through a new model. It's something that has never been tried before and she says the results are showing already, Maori families are gaining some meaningful benefits but it has come to the time to roll out the next phase and let the providers have control over how and what they deliver to their people. This will mean winding down the Regional Leadership Groups and the Governance Group who have spent the last three years getting providers ready for this stage, and changing the way they deliver their services. When will this plan happen? There will be three NGO Commissioning agencies set up, one for whanau in the North Island one for the South Island and one focusing on the needs of Pacific peoples. Te Puni Kokiri is still the administrating department. It is expected the NGO groups will be appointed by the end of the year and local providers will be able to start pitching for funding. to run whanau ora programmes by the middle of next year. Thank you Irena, That was Irena smith from our Wellington studios. Marshall has had his issues with the club over the past two seasons, his relationship with new coach Mick Potter isn't any better. Marshall has said previously he would not play against the tigers, seemingly ruling out a move to the likes of Parramatta or the Warriors, while a move to Super Rugby with the Blues or the New South Wales Waratahs as well as rugby in Japan or France looming as potential options, while playing in the Super League in the UK is also a possibility.
