  • 2Thousands of protesters took to North Island beached yesterday, concerned at the impact of proposed deep sea oil drilling, as Texan petroleum giant Anadarko begins oil exploration off the coast of Raglan. However, crude oil was New Zealand's fourth largest export earner last year, after dairy, meat and wood and is worth around $2.5 billion to the economy. The Government is determined to press ahead with facilitating deep sea drilling off the coast, and in some regions, fracking of shale rock. It has changed legislation to make it easier for oil companies to operate test wells. But is the environmental risk one worth taking? Followed by analysis from the panel.
