WE'RE BREAKING INTO PROGRAMMING NOW TO BRING YOU A ONE NEWS SPECIAL ON THE PARIS TERROR ATTACKS. FRANCE IS IN LOCKDOWN, WITH PRESIDENT FRANCOIS HOLLANDE ORDERING THE CLOSURE OF THE COUNTRY'S BORDERS, THEY'VE BEEN MULTIPLE SHOOTINGS AND EXPLOSIONS ACROSS PARIS. THE CAPITAL CITY HAS BEEN UNDER A COORDINATED TERROR ATTACK FOR THE PAST FEW HOURS, WITH AT LEAST 140 PEOPLE CONFIRMED DEAD SO FAR. THE SITUATION IS STILL VERY FLUID, WITH MANY OF THE ATTACKERS STILL ON THE LOOSE. THE DEADLIEST ATTACK APPEARS TO HAVE TARGETED A CONCERT HALL IN CENTRAL PARIS, WHERE AT LEAST 100 PEOPLE ARE REPORTED TO HAVE DIED AFTER BEING HELD HOSTAGE. HOSTAGES WHO MANAGED TO MAKE IT OUT ALIVE SAY THE ATTACKERS 'SPOKE OF SYRIA' AND CALMLY EXECUTED CONCERTGOERS BEFORE RELOADING AND EXECUTING AGAIN IN SILENCE. TWO GUNMEN HAVE BEEN KILLED AFTER BEING OVERPOWERED BY POLICE WHO STORMED THE THEATRE. OTHER ATTACKS HIT RESTAURANTS AND BARS ACROSS THE CITY. WITNESSES REPORT SEEING UP TO 10 BODIES OUTSIDE A CAMBODIAN RESTAURANT IN THE 11TH DISTRICT AFTER A DRIVE-BY SHOOTING. ANOTHER GUNMAN TARGETED A BAR FULL OF PEOPLE OUT FOR FRIDAY NIGHT DRINKS. AT ANOTHER LOCATION, ONE EYEWITNESS SAYS HE HEARD MORE THAN 100 ROUNDS BEING FIRED AT A CAFE. A BBC JOURNALIST ON THE GROUND IS ALSO REPORTING THERE HAVE BEEN ATTACKS NEAR THE LOUVRE. MORE THAN 200 FRENCH MILITARY ARE BEING DEPLOYED ACROSS PARIS, WHERE UP TO SIX GUNMEN REMAIN ON THE LOOSE. FRANCE HAS DECLARED A NATIONAL STATE OF EMERGENCY WITH POLICE ORDERING PARIS BARS TO SHUT DOWN AND PEOPLE TO STAY INDOORS. AT THIS STAGE, AIRPORTS REMAIN OPEN AND FLIGHTS AND TRAINS IN AND OUT OF PARIS ARE CONTINUING. MEANWHILE, THREE EXPLOSIONS HAVE BEEN REPORTED OUTSIDE A BAR NEAR THE STADE DE FRANCE, WHERE FRANCE WAS PLAYING A FRIENDLY FOOTBALL MATCH AGAINST GERMANY. HUNDREDS OF SPECTATORS FLED THE STANDS ON TO THE FIELD WHILE THE PLAYERS TOOK REFUGE IN THE TUNNELS. THREE PEOPLE ARE REPORTED TO HAVE BEEN KILLED THERE, WITH REPORTS TWO OF THE BLASTS WERE CAUSED BY SUICIDE BOMBERS. FRENCH PRESIDENT FRANCOIS HOLLANDE WAS AT THE STADIUM WATCHING THE MATCH AND HAS BEEN EVACUATED TO SAFETY. GRN CORRESPONDENT DEON DE LANGE IS IN PARIS AND JOINS US VIA PHONE NOW. DEON, WHAT'S THE LATEST? Well, I think lockdown is the keyword. Movement is very difficult, and tension is quite high. I am located not far from the scene of what has now been turned a massacre. The theatre, the Bataclan Theatre, we estimate is our there are approximately 100 people dead. Tensions are high. I have seen buses passing and heeding towards the scene, and perhaps those buses are to remove people who have survived. 15 police vehicles standing by here. Those police are deployed around the theatre. Local news reports suggest that's six gunmen are still on the loose, and police are searching for them. The government has asked people to stay indoors, and by and large it seems that people are abiding by that. There is nobody on the streets. Apart from rescue personnel. THANK YOU. THAT'S GRN CORRESPONDENT DEON DE LANGE IN PARIS. ONE NEWS POLITICAL EDITOR CORIN DANN JOINS US NOW. AND, CORIN, ISIS HAS JUST CLAIMED RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE ATTACK. WHAT CAN YOU TELL US? There will be a lot of people Who think it is ISIS. We have two wait until things are fully clear. It is very fluid. I have spoken to terrorism experts here. They believe it is either ISIS or Al Qaeda. The nature of this attack is that it is co-ordinated. A number of attackers were intent on suicide attacking. That is one of the reasons, and so just to bring you up to date with the situation with New Zealanders. MFAT is still working away. 249 New Zealanders are registered as being in France. They are in lockdown in Paris at the moment. An 18-year-old student in Cambridge set she had spoken to her parents and said she was safe, and she has been told to stay indoors. She said at was like the scenes from a movie and a little bit unreal. We will bring you more updates as we can on the New Zealanders. John Key is en route to Vietnam. We hope to hear from him later today and from the New Zealand government. THANKS. THAT'S ONE NEWS POLITICAL EDITOR CORIN DANN. A QUICK RECAP IF YOU'RE JUST JOINING US. ISIS HAS REPORTEDLY CLAIMED RESPONSIBILITY FOR COORDINATED TERROR ATTACKS IN PARIS WITH MULTIPLE SHOOTINGS AND EXPLOSIONS ACROSS THE CITY. AT LEAST 140 PEOPLE ARE DEAD AND UP TO SIX GUNMEN REMAIN ON THE LOOSE. 100 CONCERTGOERS HAVE BEEN KILLED AT THE BATACLAN CONCERT HALL AFTER BEING HELD HOSTAGE BY GUNMEN. 40 PEOPLE DIED ELSEWHERE AFTER GUNMEN ATTACKED RESTAURANTS AND BARS ACROSS THE CITY, AND TWO SUICIDE BOMBERS ARE REPORTED TO HAVE TARGETED THE STADE DE FRANCE, WHERE A FRIENDLY FOOTBALL MATCH WAS UNDERWAY BETWEEN FRANCE AND GERMANY.
