Copyright Able 2016 (Samba music) we are going to be concerned with places one to 6. This is the gold-medal race. Mahe Drysdale is in the mix. The mark has stood for seven years now. Ondrej Synek versus Mahe Drysdale. The Cuban is experienced. Mahe Drysdale is the world record holder and defending Olympic champion. We are go in the men's single sculls final. Czech Republic, Cuba, Croatia, Belgium, NZ. Ondrej Synek is to Mahe Drysdale's right. At this stage expecting to see a real tussle. Ondrej Synek getting a lead in the first couple of strokes. All of these scullers absolute quality. Damir Martin has a powerful stroke. As all the Croatians do. They try to go out and get a lead and hang on. Ondrej Synek next to those two. Damir Martin is on Mahe Drysdale's other side. The Cuban is also there. Could not hang on to his oar in the semi-final. Damir Martin leads in the first quarter of the race. Drysdale and Synek way down. Ondrej Synek put down a real marker in the world Championships last year and Mahe Drysdale ended up second. They had a battle the year before stroke to stroke. The Nzer has started to push back. Mahe Drysdale is getting back on to Ondrej Synek. But Damir Martin is doing well. The Croatian was a format quad specialist. He is in the lead. Ondrej Synek has had glittering form over the last three or four world Championships. He is second at the moment to Damir Martin, two-time European champion. He has had terrific form for Croatia. He is a leading at the Olympic final. Now we start to see the third 500. You need to be so tough. All those years of training are getting laid out on the track. Mahe Drysdale is moving parts Ondrej Synek. Ondrej Synek is not looking too comfortable. Playing mind games in the earlier rounds. Mahe Drysdale has done a move now. Here comes Mahe Drysdale. Through Damir Martin. He wants to be the two-time Olympic champion. Mahe Drysdale won in London in 2012. Rob Waddell won the gold medal in Sydney. They are pushing into the last 500. It is Mahe Drysdale from Damir Martin. What a move from Drysdale. He is so confident about his fitness. He has worked so hard on building that base. Damir Martin is moving back. He is a very strong sculler. Ondrej Synek is also trying to lift. Ondrej Synek has nothing here. It is going to be Mahe Drysdale. He was the silver medallist at the world inventions the last two years against Ondrej Synek. It is still Mahe Drysdale. Back-to-back Olympic golds. But here comes Damir Martin in Ondrej Synek. He needs to look now. Mahe Drysdale is pushing hard. He looks to his right. The Croatian is absolutely flying now. Ondrej Synek is dropping off. Mahe Drysdale is digging deep. NZ second there. Fantastic from the Croatian sculler. Wait to see the official results. So close. They left everything out there. Not sure who the victor is. Oh! Mahe Drysdale had a slight surge there. He was just in the lead. (Crowd roar) not sure what the result is. Mahe Drysdale is smiling. Mahe Drysdale is the two-time Olympic champion. Just wait for the timing to come out. So close over the line. 6.41.34. A new Olympic record. He has beaten the mark from London. It is a new Olympic best time from Mahe Drysdale. Half a bow ball. They have been given the same time. Mahe Drysdale is the two-time Olympic champion in the men's single sculls. Mahe Drysdale that has to be the closest finish in world rowing history. You didn't know what was going on. We had no idea. I knew he got in front of me with a few strokes to go. It was like the Evers Swindell twins in Beijing. You saw a Damir Martin get off to a fast start. Did you try to stick with them? I was trying to stick with the and get them in the second 1000m. I just went <BLEEP>! I try to get that lead. Usually when you get an overlap and you pull away it is job done, but you could not shake him/ Was there panic? Yes. It was an agonising wait at the finish line. An amazing gutsy bronze medal row at Beijing. And now you are back-to-back Olympic champion. Top of the podium. The man, the king. He is a Kiwi. Bronze medal in the single in 2008. He was leading the whole way and had been ill. He has tenacity and fight. What a story for Drysdale. A five-time world champion. Not many more things that you can win in the sport. Two-time Olympic champion. Captions were made possible with funding from The National Foundation for the Deaf. Text GOLD to 4847 to make a $3 donation to the cause. Copyright Able 2016 What can the women do? It is the final in the single sculls. We have seen an Olympic best set by Mahe Drysdale. Is the 12-year-old Mark going to come under threat here? Emma Twigg fourth in London. World champion in 2014. She is the closest challenger to Kim Brennan. Away we go. The women's single sculls gold-medal race. Switzerland, United States, Australian, China NZ and Austria. In the past three years this has all been about Twigg versus Brennan the only opponent to be Kim Brennan has been Emma Twigg. What can the Kiwi do in Lane five? Mahe Drysdale got the gold-medal in the men's singles can she do the same? She will be focused on hanging on to this fast starting Australian Kim Brennan. She has the perfect physique for rowing. She tends to push out to lead. She does not have to spring very often because she gets a large margin. Emma Twigg is at the back of this race. I think she will be comfortable with that. She will have to do work in the middle of the race. Kim Brennan has put Clearwater between herself and the rest. Emma Twigg at the back of the group. In Lane five. The Kiwi sculler way back. She will not be worried as she has a fast finish. Look at the margin. There is a huge margin. We go through the 500m. That is two and three. The United States won silver in Beijing. Kim Brennan is heading through the midway point of this race 3.72 ahead of Stone. Clearwater lead for Kim Brennan. She is in control of this final. Emma Twigg has worked to do here. Stone is doing well in Lane two. Emma Twigg is in Lane five. We have seen nothing from the Austrian. It is still Kim Brennan with a clear lead. Not helping the Scullers to stay balanced, it might become a factor as they tried to drive through the last 500m. Kim Brennan has put a big margin out there. She is sculling so well. This is the push. This is the last 500m for the gold medal race in the women's single sculls. She has been in control from start to finish - Kim Brennan. Where is Emma Twigg? The Kiwi is in Lane five. It is still Kim Brennan, then Stone and Duaan. Duaan is now gaining on Stone. The last 250. Stone and Duaan both have strong finishes. Emma Twigg at the moment is just out of the medals. Stone is starting to push back on Kim Brennan. With 200 to go, I think we're looking at in Olympic champion. She has pulled back half a length on the Chinese sculler. She has to dig deep. China is bronze. It is about getting a medal now for Emma Twigg/ it is Kim Brennan with clear water between herself and the rest. Stone in Lane two for the United States. It will be Kim Brennan for the gold. Then Stone and Duaan. Emma Twigg out of the medals. United States, then China in three. What a race from Australia. We knew she had the form. Questions have been asked and it was pressure on her. Stone with another silver in this event for the United States. China take the bronze. Time for the victory ceremony after the women's shot put. This was incredible. Down to the wire he will be hoping he would be awarding the gold to NZ. He will award the medals to the shot putters. Michelle Carter has been smiling all night. Anita Martin from Hungary. She threw a personal best to achieve this bronze medal. She progressed and got better throughout the competition then culminated in a personal best in the last round. Bronze medal to Hungary. She goes one better than her fourth place in the world Championships in Beijing last year. And absolutely delighted. She was not on the medal radar. A fantastic opposition for the Hungarian. Now she must have thought, she led for five rounds/ she was 50 cm ahead of the nearest competitor going into the last round. But then things happen in field events. And Valerie Adams going for her third successive title and the Olympic games ends up with a silver medal. She gave it her best shot on the night. She got very close to taking the gold-medal. It was not to happen. She takes the silver. Gold-medallist and Olympic champion representing the USA. Michelle Carter. Michelle Carter salutes the crowd. What a great response she is getting. Her father won the silver in 1984 in Los Angeles. He will be even prouder than her. She smiles that lovely smile. She collected the gold-medal. She won it in the perfect way. On the last attempt, she put the pressure on the person she has overtaken. What a fantastic performance by Michelle Carter in the women's shot put. (Majestic music) Into the women's team pursuit bronze medal race. As New Zealand and Canada. New Zealand Road a blistering round one, which gave them the shot are bronze medal here. These the Canadian team. This is going to be a close fight here between the Canadians and New Zealanders. The Canadian team has been rising very quickly, developing all the time. Away they go in the bronze medal race are a 2016 in the women's team pursuit. Both teams set national records in the previous round, and they are going hunting for bronze here. The Canadians have gone out hard on the first lap. Little bit of advantage over the New Zealanders, but as we've seen, it all comes down to what happens in the end. The Canadians going up very fast. Lauren Ellis will New Zealand hands over to Racquel Sheath now. New Zealand have been putting so much resource and energy into the track programme. They've invested a lot into the new facility in New Zealand. Athletes delighted to have the facility and resource there. Everything is all in one location, able to train together has made all the difference for the Kiwis. Right now they have some work to do. Peeling up as Nielsen as they go through with New Zealand down. Having to put in a huge poll now, New Zealand. On the front is Rushlee Buchanan. Would be massive the Canadian team to bring home at bronze medal. Canada have got the edge of the moment. Simmerling on the front for Canada. This is her third Olympics. Her previous two were Winter Olympics. Canadians giving it all together here. Bronze medallists in London in 2012. New Zealand team under a lot of pressure her from the Canadians. Fourth rider having to work extremely hard to stay in contact. The Canadians have it all on hand at the moment. They've gone out hard. Can the New Zealand is bringing home? Canada extend their lead. 1.385 at the moment. Canada driving hard, trying to keep it tidy at the back beer. You can see New Zealand starting to waver a little bit. Canadians having a very very strong right here. Just under a second and a half for New Zealand. They'll keep fourth rider. New Zealand coach on the inside the track is instructing his girls to give more now. They have to do something. The down to 3, the New Zealanders. So other Canadians at exactly the same time. Canadians have an extremely handy lead over the New Zealanders. On the front the Canada is Georgia Simmerling. New Zealand keep it going. On the front for them is Ellis. New Zealanders have a job to do because Canadians have been absolutely on fire. Now New Zealand have to put in a huge effort over the closing 650. Canada are opening their lead. They are closing in New Zealand. Canadians have New Zealanders on site. Looking good the Canadians and the bronze medal. On the front for Canada as Glazer. Canada bronze medallist in London in 2012. Runs a game for the Canadians. A really really good team effort here. Canada will take the bronze medal ahead of New Zealand, I will finish fourth at the Olympic Games. The Canadians will be delighted with that. They didn't do anything wrong here in the final ride for the bronze medal, the Canadians. They are absolutely delighted with the bronze medal at the Olympic Games. Always developing, the Canadians. Bright futures Text GOLD to 4847 to make a $3 donation to the cause. Dylan Schmidt is only 19. Training out of Auckland. Brought up closer to Queenstown in the South island. I had the pleasure of watching him at the youth Olympic Games and he was very impressive there. Beautiful body form. Good height here. On the trampoline you can be stylish. You've really got lots of time to show your skills off in the year. I think is showing that nicely, albeit a little bit of movement back on the bed. New Zealand's first Olympic trampoline asked has made an impressive start. Good to see him with some support here, too. Here we see a very nice Cody. It's a .14 lending out of the region. And in the compulsory routines, they can matter quite a lot. Might just take a fraction of his flight time away from the sweet spot. And 48.34 Dylan Schmidt. Has and six position at the moment. A longer look now at the standings. Gao and prominent position. They are the ones that are better placed to move through. Those towards the bottom need a stalag second routine. Men at the other end of his career. Full of promise and potential. Youth Olympic champion two years ago. He's got to the games one cycle early. It's a big step up from youth Olympic Games. They do have the difficulty capped in their competition. Strong leagues. Here he goes. Looking nice and his skills. Strong pickup. Most of his elements... Needs to keep the height up. Well done. Clearly done from Dylan Schmidt. He's done a wonderful job at his first Olympics at 19. The Kiwi flag flying high. They should. He's brought pride to his country. Here we see a pipe. It was well controlled. He never looked in much trouble. Half in, half out. Clean positioning. See the strain on the face. End of the routine. Ultimate effort to get it around. The legs would be tired. New Zealand's first Olympic trampoline at. 107.66. Into the final goes Schmidt. Dylan Schmidt must be pinching himself. What an honour. There we have it. Dylan Schmidt of New Zealand will go up first. They will go in reverse order. Highest qualifier last, so that will be Gao. New Zealand's first trampoline gymnast has made the final. Wish them all the best. You we go. His first up. Theory goes. Ooh, bit of trouble there. He's got himself out of it though. Well done. Testify together is rhythm back now. Very impressive the way he's been able to keep this routine going. Big jump required. Stay there. And he has completed up. Congratulations, Dylan Schmidt. It's not quite what he dream job, but it's certainly not a nightmare. Drift dangerously close to the edge. He had centimetres to speedier and would all have been over. That's the type of quick thinking required. Coach is not allowed to talk to them while they're doing the routine. I'm sure he would have loved to have yelled something out. Well done, well done. He's posted a score, and the others had to be sure it. Would like to have been more in the centre. Can't be taken back. Whatever happens, he's done a marvellous job. Is amongst the top eight in the world. Just about the youngest in the field. 57.14. Happy to accept that. Couple of points behind this qualification effort. Hancarou a handsome winner by 1.2. Another fourth for Japan. The Russians fifth and eighth. Dylan Schmidt a very credible seven for New Zealand. Captions were made possible with funding from The National Foundation for the Deaf. Text GOLD to 4847 to make a $3 donation to the cause. Copyright Able 2016 It's race number six for the women. Going to be a busy day for the 49ers. Denmark have the position. Race six underway. Finland were tucked in behind and got off to a slow start as a result of that. Lot more speed coming out of the Estonians, Germans and Chileans. To come over to the right on the other side of the cause it is New Zealand in the USA. They started on the bottom third of the line. When they come back and converge... Normally someone will be right and someone will be wrong, but the true test will be when they come back together. This is interesting. It looks to me as though New Zealanders in the USA, who started at the penny end, are going to see the cross. They are in a strong position. We're about halfway up the beat. USA now tack down to leeward of Spain. USA are doing a lot better than the rankings would say. Maloney and Meech from New Zealand New Zealand is a world ranked number three. Very much a team to be feared out here. Alexandra Maloney is a small skip at just 5 feet two. She won the world championship back in 2009. They took the left-hand option off the line and that's really good coaching or good strategy by New Zealand. It's worked out. There were talking a few weeks ago about how much time they spent on the start, and they said it slowly beginning to pay off. It's paying off her it raised another six of the Olympic Games. First Mark them, and around ago. But what led the New Zealanders have got here. Look at this. Picked up a nice lay line. You can see they are going to go right. Are going to plan their way again? Alex Maloney out on the trapeze. Out they come. Beautiful crew work. The New Zealanders led down through the second mark. He comes Spain. Love the way but in the last race. United States up there as well. I'm thinking in the 12 second mark. Have a punt. From the other side, the Americans and resilience trying to tiptoe when and put pressure on the New Zealand combination. Around go Meech and Maloney. The helmsman there, Molly Meech. Final race of the day here for the 49er FX class. Spain the reigning world champions. They came third in the European championship as well, so there come into this regatta at the Olympic Games in the best possible shape. Little bit of speed as well as they come down toward the bottom here. The winds picked up a little bit as a matter of fact. Now, what's the choice. Spain go left. Americans go in the opposite direction. Resilience and New Zealanders- Brazilians have caught Meech and Maloney. Not a good downwind for the New Zealanders. Denmark now are pretty close to being in the lead. New Zealand are also around- New Zealand could have regained the lead here by coming to the right. They settle down and compose themselves. They didn't tag in the main thing is they didn't panic. New Zealand were down in fifth position and did manage to get back up. If they can lay the stock market to first position. That's impressive sailing. They were 15 seconds down at the bottom mark. They turned back in the lead. The've overtaken Spain. Still in second place. The Danes in third. They keep up this very impressive, consistent form. This is the last big move to go for victory in race number six. Women's 49er fracture. Maloney and Meech New Zealand. Now really putting their foot down and the Olympic Games. Here they come. New Zealand will take the victory in race another six. Really fine races well. Spanish had them for a moment or two, and it's Denmark second. What a day for them. They will retain the overall leaders a result of that. Third spot for the Dutch. Confirmation of results. Another terrific race by the Danes. Outside the top 10 - that's all part of the Olympic programme of course, bringing nations together. Great competition and comrade are. Standings at the halfway point - Brazil in New Zealand tied for second place at the moment. Copyright Able 2016
