It's not the similar to the decathlon. A combination of spread and insurance events. 18 man will be taking it on. Scratch race, the elimination, the 1 km time trial and finally the points race. The scratch race, the 1st event in the men's omnium. Over 15 km. 1st across the line picks up 40 points. So important for these riders to test their legs here. Australia has so much experience in this event. A man determined to defend his title. Of the 6 events in this competition, we will see all these men have different fortes in different specialties. Who is going to take the 1st event of the omnium? This is now Tim Veldt from the Netherlands. He didn't go toO well. He was 10th. It was the Frenchman who won the scratch race then. We've got 5 min. Remaining. That will certainly help them. The Frenchman has jumped out of the bunch to go after them. Looks like the bunch has given up on the chase. OShea has 3rd or 4th place in his hands. Dennis Glenn O'Shea chasing down. These riders have still got 5 events to go. This bunch stuck between Glenn O'Shea and the Frenchman the defending champs doing so well so far. Thomas is going to catch as well and be in 3rd place. There is the bell now. Dylan Kennett. Holding on. They're coming across the line now. Kennett, Cavendish and Hansen what a race. They had a sprint to the line themselves these 2. The Frenchman would take 3rd. Glenn O'Shea 4th. Hansen has begun the Defense of his Olympic title in an emphatic manner here. Here is the scoreboard. Cavendish is in 6th place. It's all about the points and where you finish in each event. Natasha Hansen from NZ up against Kate O'Brien from Canada. Hansen is the NZ record holder. A big chance here. Really wants to progress here to further credence to her selection. She did finish 5th of the world selection. ClInched her selection. Hansen is now moving to the top of the track, trying to force the Canadian to put some pressure on the pedals. All this moving over the track has some purpose. It's not just for show. She's trying to attract some pressure to pick up the speed. Running down the sprint lane. Hansen is taking some length. She wants to come down fast. And she will. That is a fantastic effort by Natasha Hansen. Hugely confident ride. Absolutely. There she's been pushed off by her coach. I really confidence ride. She had a plan and stuck to it. She said she's coming in and coming fast. Unlucky yesterday but you're very happy with that. They please with that ride. I'm happy that they didn't come to afford to finish again. You are pretty quick in your time trial. You came from a long to pedal past with these. I got my timing better than yesterday. Next to ride in the omnium - 4000m of commitment and pain as they try and post the fastest possible time to be ranked all the way down the field. The point is that will accumulate eventually to the overall winner of the omnium. This is a 23-year-old Korean and Dylan Kennett from New Zealand he was inspired by the Tour de France and worked to be on this track. Six. Events over two days, you have to be ready. The scratch race has already been raised today. Now, the pursuit. This is ninth and 10th. Kennett is going well. It is early days yet. We have seen riders go a little too hard and fade over the later stages Kennett in third place and Park in sixth place. The fastest time as recorded by the Netherlands the riders are going a little bit late on this pursuit. They have a slight advantage knowing what the the fastest time is posted and not needing to do too much more than that. They can conserve energy for the remaining four events. Kennett is looking good out there. The fastest time. So far at this point. The fastest through 2000m was 13.67. Kennett has gone faster than that. He is on a good ride at the moment, Dylan Kennett. He certainly is. Little technical aspects of the riding - we don't see show covers. They are more aerodynamic without shoe covers he is the fastest rider, Dylan Kennett on New Zealand. He has gone through 2000 with the fastest. At 3000m, Tim Veldt started to really pile on the pressure. We will see soon if Dylan Kennett still on that Mark. Park a sixth place overall. He is an easy time of Tim Veldt. The New Zealander is holding it together There. It is going to be a great benefit fork Kennett Having the rider on her site. He is riding a very stable position there. He will know he is in a good time from his coach. New Zealand are seeking every advantage they can. They are the foremost carbon mast makers. The same carbon is being used here for the bike. He gets past Park. Just in the last half lap. He will post a good time. He is the fastest so far - 4.20 he will be pleased with that ride. The New Zealander goes to the top of the board after 10 riders in the individual pursuit of the omnium, after he finished 10th and the scratch race. He is nicely positioned here in the individual pursuit. You can see these riders, when they cross the line after the 4000 pursuit, they are in a world of pain. They will have to switch immediately into recovery mode. They have one more event to compete in today. They have got the elimination race coming. It is a brutal test of every facet of the riders ability. Captions were made possible with funding from The National Foundation for the Deaf. Text GOLD to 4847 to make a $3 donation to the cause. Away they go. Neutralised to start with. The riders are giving it their best. A spot of bother for the American. You want to stay up front. There is such a scramble to get off the back of the field. The gun goes now. They've had 2 laps to get position now. The American is in position, but they are fighting to move in. The down now. There will be someone eliminated in the next lap. This guy on the back he doesn't want to be there. He is in trouble now. He goes for the other side. A really big upset. This is a huge upset. He will be super disappointed. That's how easy it is. He shook his head. He was so angry. All his hard work winning the 1st 2 rounds. That certainly going to affect his motivation in the competition. Dylan Kennett goes out just like that. He's just moved out. That's how positions can change so quickly. The Brazilian get himself out of trouble but is not totally out of it. It looks like number 12 is eliminated. China. Kruger is on the back. Is going to have to make his position now. A little bit of trouble there in the back goes well. Will the Frenchman be able to get out the top? Trying to push his way out with Boudat. I think it is Kluge. The German goes out. Nicely positioned, that rider in the orange helmet. The Japanese, the Mexican. Bobby Lea. He will be eliminated in this lap. Bobby Lee. The surprise. The leader out of the very 1st sprint. A bit of pressure here. Glenn O'Shea is going to be in trouble. It's all happening out here. The safest places in front. We are now coming down to the business end of the big points. They still have to do some work. He looks across the Swiss rider. He is in trouble. Did he get around? Yes, he can. The Mexican goes out. The Swiss teamtakes to the front. He wants to get out of trouble there. You see Mark Cavendish for the 1st time. CAN he get out? The Brazilian rider he's going to come off here. It is the Swiss rider that is left trailing behind it will go out. We are left with 8 riders. So disappointed. We can see from the bike of Gaviria. The bell rings, a rider gets eliminated. Monteiro trying to stay ahead of Boudat. It is Monteiro. There will be a little bit of discussion about Cavendish. Montero stays in. He is disgusted, not happy. Gaviria is doing a great job. MonteIro. He survived that when Cavendish was at the bottom but he got eliminated now. The rider from Great Britain and Cavendish eliminated. He is on the front there at the moment. So is the Japanese rider. Now he goes out. The rider from Kazakhstan. We are down to 4. It will be decided over the next few laps. Experience there getting out of trouble. Boudat has to work hard. It is the Japanese rider would take those points. He will move up now. Viviani one of the favorites. He wants to play this one safe. Bell goes now. It could be Viviani. It's going to be close. Could be in a bit of trouble, but this is impressive riding. Viviani is looking superb. One lap to go. Gaviria is out. The Frenchman dived down here. Viviani will chase them. He's going to be determined. A sprint by Viviani takes the maximum points. The Frenchman will get 2nd. Here is Mark Cavendish so disappointed. He had superb legs. Here is the move where he came under the black line. And there is Gaviria saying you can't do that. That may be lack of experience in Riding these elimination events. After 3 event, it is Thomas Boudat who leads. Nothing to choose between these riders. It can change in the blink of an eye. The defending champion is now in 6 places. Also points out of the point rates will be added to determine the best. Captions were made possible with funding from The National Foundation for the Deaf. Text GOLD to 4847 to make a $3 donation to the cause. from New Zealand - (APPLAUSE) he has flown that. Really crunched that. We are coming to you live from Rio at the Olympic golf course where Ryan has finished up a good day. Your plus one for the tournament. Why do you think the performance was better today? Conditions were better today. Apart from a couple of unlucky things happening, it could have been two or three beta. It has been a tournament with a big names did not come. Now that you have come and singled is really like, what is your response to the decision? Our job for the week was to make sure they felt like they were missing out on something. The feeling from all the guys. Here's that they certainly have. The tournament has been fantastic. Everything has been fantastic. I would have traded for anything in the world. Some mentioned stroke play could have been in teams. I Love Lucy. It might have been tough to win a medal. If we had a really good day between us and the teams, we could have pushed for a team medal. It keeps everyone and it. And as a but more for everyone at home. Hopefully they look into that with Tokyo. I know you have seen some of Lydia Ko's goalf You think this course will suit her? Everything will suit her. She has been looking forward to this event ever since gold was potentially going to be in the Olympics. I am sure she will be ready. I caught up with the last night and had a talk to her on the course. She is super excited. I would ask you, what is happening next value? Switzerland tonight. It is a little bit disappointing that they cannot spend an extra couple of days and Rio and see the sights, I've only got to see a few events so far but I have not been anywhere else. I have to take that one of the Bucket list a little bit later. Finishing on the last with the local, and having a Brazilian flag around was a highlight. We don't anything like that in a golf tournament. They give are chatting. Good to see you. (APPLAUSE) he had an eight yesterday. Apart from that, he had the ball very well again yesterday. A good clean striker yes, Danny Lee has finished up at the Olympic Golf couraddse. I had less birdies than what I was thinking, but I'm still happy with two under. I had very good momentum coming over to next week and winning the last PGA Tour event. My game is in good shape. Can you tell me the format of strokeplay, some people think it should be teams. Ryan Fox likes the idea, what about you? I like it. Either way. It means a lot to come over here and show up and represent your country and plays an Olympic athlete. It means a lot, I don't care what kind of formatted as. Showing up means a lot. Now that you have experienced up, what would you say about the guys who decided not to come? I respect all the decisions. There is nothing I can say but, um, there are a couple of bad rumours about it here. I don't think that was true at all. I really enjoyed my stay here and hanging out with all the athletes. It was an incredible week. A you leaving straightway as well? Yes, I am catching a nine o'clock flight tonight. Obviously, you know that Lydia Ko, Heidi think she will do? I am pretty sure she will win gold for us. She is a guaranteed top 3.
