Now the opportunity for one of these hockey playing nations to reach a hockey Olympic final. A repeat of the bronze medal match in London. What is on the line is the opportunity to reach an Olympic final. The opportunity to play the Netherlands to win gold. Great Britain versus NZ. Mark Hager is consistent with his lineup. I am not the coach but it does not look like a changes much. She will try to go around the outside. Screams in frustration. At her best. A tough call that. The two options switch around. Great Britain led by one goal to nil. Created the penalty corner. She had a hat-trick the last time these two met. Picked it right did Rutherford. In a tussle with Neal. Comes ofF the stick of the NZ player. NZ find themselves in a hole in this game. Not insurmountable. But Great Britain will have to defend here. NZ push again. It was not a dangerous ball. 4 for Alex Danson in this olympics. NZ still in position. 3 minutes remaining. They are keeping possession NZ. They tried to stretch open the Great Britain defence. It is going to hit Twigg. A real chance to level in this game with a penalty corner. Working around both sides of the pitch. Twigg could not stop it getting on to her foot. Great Britain get themselves ready. It will be Mickelson to inject. 40 seconds is up. Out to McLaren. McLaren puts it just wide. Great view from behind. Had it covered. Second half under way. Great Britain 30 minutes away from a gold medal match against the Netherlands. NZ have 30 minutes to save themselves and give themselves the opportunity to go for gold. They have started pretty well in this one. In early penalty corner in the first 26 seconds. Merry was tenacious. Olivia Merry took a nasty stick in the cheek earlier. She earns a penalty corner for NZ. Whitelock. BLocked. A little bit high. Goes into the body of Richardson Walsh. That is exactly right. Great Britain's captain decided to go wide. She could get into some danger being close to the ground. Whitelock again. That will be Great Britain's opportunity to clear away. Richardson Walsh much more upright. A very good position there. Much better From Richardson Walsh. Right in the face. Into Twigg. Yikes. You try to move on without stopping. Great Britain will be thinking who is next? First Cullen and then Twigg. There is the Whitelock drive. Straight into the face of Georgie Twigg. Space for her and Richardson Walsh she is going to win herself this. The penalty corner is challenged immediately. A penalty corner? The question is whether or not it was in or outside the foot. A mix of it again. You got the impression the umpire was right there. This is going to be really tricky. The foot is inside. That is a decision. Referral rejected. Strapping around her right shoulder. Webb and Richardson Walsh will try to trap. Webster has already taken a few blows. It was stymied by the footwork. Another penalty corner. Try again. Be was a whistle somewhere in there. It could be from the crowd. The are many in the crowd. It is confusing. Anita McLaren. Another chance here. The helmet came flying off. Findings space, reacting to the pass. The was no Nzer. Townsend comes through with the ball. A tough job. Walsh just about keep that in. With a real opportunity for Great Britain. Taken down. The yellow card has gone to the NZ skipper Whitelock. The umpire has deemed it was a deliberate infringement against Richardson Walsh. The dump from Kayla Whitelock. Twigg is happy with that. Richardson Walsh has had one attempt for a penalty stroke already. This has way more pressure. 2-0 with 12.45 to go will mean a lot. 2-0 Great Britain! They are marching towards the Olympic final. She is in an awful lot of pain. The will be some delight you as well. She has done her bit for the team. Great Britain lead NZ's 2-0 they could go high to the goalkeepers right. It goes where it is meant to. They need something now. They need to gamble more. Look at the free ball. Stacey Mickelson. It flew just over the top. Liz Thompson making space for herself. Just trying to redirect the ball. It just goes up and over the bar. Plenty of comebacks in this tournament. Look at that structure. Side to side. Another opportunity for Great Britain. This is incredible. A second penalty stroke. It is the angles that Great Britain are using. It puts the defenders under great pressure. Owlsely attacks. Can't get out of the way in time. Gets the call. It is Danson who set up for Great Britain. Surely this would seal it. Great Britain appear to be on course to the final. And guaranteeing a first ever silver medal. Or could it be more? Smart play again. It goes hard enough through. 3-0 Great Britain. Neil sweeps this one in. The opportunity there. Could be a chance on the backhand side. Another good effort, but not finding the target. Harrison. Alex Denson. She has two. ONE for Helen Richardson Walsh. Great Britain will play for a gold medal in the first time in a history. A comfortable 3-0 victory. They did everything that was asked of them. NZ had no answers. We were outplayed throughout the midfield. They ran it as an we got in behind. Normally we do that to other teams. It is disappointing. An important role to be the captain. How do you get the team up for the bronze medal match? We have been in this position before. It is not nice. We don't want to come away with nothing. We want to step up and play from the start. We need to lift for tomorrow and focus on Germany. Captions were made possible with funding from The National Foundation for the Deaf. Text GOLD to 4847 to make a $3 donation to the cause. Copyright Able 2016 The conditions are pretty close to perfect, I would have thought. Rowers just coming in from the south. head on to the course, not helping to get at the start gate. The greater threat in many respects - the strong wind coming from the sides? Absolutely. Much harder to balance. Lisa Carrington of New Zealand goes here in this first heat of the woman's singles 500m. Lisa Carrington seven for this event four years ago in London. The two-time champion at 200m. Carrington strong and line 5 so is Jorgensen Portugal to her right. Carrington just about has her nose in France. You can see the changing continuously. It is your concern of Denmark and Lane to CORRECTIoN: Jorgensen. Lisa Carrington is known for having a very strong second-half. We saw that in the 200m. You do not have a lot of time to get back leads, but with 250 to go. I think we will see who draw level. Portella holding the third position at the moment. You can see Jorgensen with a narrow lead. Carrington showeringadditional strength in the second half. She has a real chance to get two gold in the same events at the same games. Opening up a lead of half a length of the Dane. The race of bird has been very keenly fought. Cars Lisa Carrington gold medallist in 200m coming through here. comfortable victory. Jorgensen is second, coming through and third as Portella of Portugal. For Carrington, that was routine. There are some strategy at play, not wanting to overcook. A semifinal later in the day. Lisa Carrington goes into the second heat. That is the result from the first. Jorgensen in second. It is the Tunisian who is eliminated. Lisa Carrington, a gold medallist already at these games looking very strong and that this morning's hate. This is the weaker of her event. From the evidence of this morning, the ambition of picking up two gold medals not entirely without question. Can a Lisa Carrington pick up the final? She is certainly one of the most prominent New Zealand sportswoman these days. Carrington of New Zealand makes her way down the stadium stretch. 500m and the canoe kayak single. Litvinchuk of Belarus going strong, Lisa to her left. Carrington particularly strong in her second half. A good margin now. She holds a good place. She was holding it in her heat. Some Workfor the New Zealander. Poland beside her, holding on. Lisa Carrington has Half a length to make up. One or two questions asked of Lisa Carrington. Maryna Litvinchuk is away and clear. You can see the splendid rhtym. Carrington working hard here. You can see that strengthen the second half, taking her up with than a quarter of a boat length of Maryna Litvinchuk. You get a sense she is looking incredibly relaxed. Entirely in control, the New Zealander. Perhaps she is looking to get to the front. Very well on the fireside beer. It is going to be Maryna Litvinchuk who will take the feeling of Carrington, the Belarusian can barely believe it. A stunning achievement. Very different conditions to this morning's race. . Everyone coming through. How you doing? Yeah, good. Pretty tough out the. The competition is incredibly strong. Some girls are not making it through that are great paddlers. You have managed to avoid some of the bigger names. You must be happy. Absolutely. It worked out. Being world champion last year, is seeded, so you know where you will be. The races here, they are tough. Semi two and three will be very tough. Did you think if you stayed with the Belarusian, you would be top 2. I was consolidating. I didn't want to chase her. I wanted to do what I can do and dropping the Polish girl, once that happens, I kicked it through to the finish. You're finished look strong. I know you say the bit at the end. You really kicked into gear. That is part of the race. You have to use energy efficiently. That is how I managed to do it. I differently peddled as hard as I could at the time. The Belarusian girl, she had a great race. Captions were made possible with funding from The National Foundation for the Deaf. Text GOLD to 4847 to make a $3 donation to the cause. Copyright Able 2016 Hello again. Welcome back to Rio. The made of as an Olympic golf course for the 31st Olympiad. This was designed by an American in collaboration with Amy Alcott. Nestled with the mountains in the distance. It gets a windswept in the afternoon, placid conditions for day one for the women's individual strokeplay event just days after a magnificent men's tournament. From NZ Lydia Ko. Number one for 43 weeks. 221m to the pin. Lydia Ko from NZ. Does she like it> she needs to get on her bike, she is seven shots behind the leaders at the moment. 93 yards today. She would have been hoping she was closer with that, with that wedge of hers. No. Never enough. World number one, remains at +2. (Applause) Shot from Lydia Ko. Another opportunity for birdie. Yes! She needed that for sure. After two days to early bogeys, she gets her first birdie of the round. Back to +1. That swing has been tweaked. A little twist. More vertical at the top of the backswing. The idea is to get Lydia to move the ball more from right to left. Good putt. Does a lot of putting on the US LPGA tour. Second shot. (APPLAUSE) this to get back to even par. Oh. That was a good-looking putt. Lydia Ko on 10. That is a birdie. The second birdie of the round. She is level par. Second shot for Lydia here. Back to even par. Yes! Hello hello! So many have shaved the hole today sooner or later one has to drop. A real bonus. She has. That is a big birdie for Lydia Ko. Gets her into the green figures for the first time today. Skipping away. It has gone right for sure. It has not gone into the green stuff there. That is one of the trademarks of her game - anything around the green, her putting, her chipping. For par to stay one under. Sounded clean. No. I will come back and get after we finish. She is well short. She did not get the backspin she wanted. To stay one under. Just tick-tock. Never loses the tempo in her swing. A wonderful attitude. We can learn a lot from her attitude. She plays golf with a smile on his face. We saw his using a rescue. She has three rescues in her bag. Two, three, four iron are now rescues. It hasn't quite happened for Lydia today. A very wide fairway. She has hit it up level. Not sure if it was intended, but she got away with it. She is 30 yards closer to the green. We will see this one spinning quickly when it hits the ground. That's the advantage. In the hole! What a way to finish! Nice! First day at the Olympics. Yes! Brilliant from Lydia Ko. She did not know it had gone in. Yes. Another opportunity for a birdie here. She is three under on the back nine. Looked good for most of its journey, but then just drifted. Lydia Ko for birdie. She has pushed that way too wide. When far too wide. Oh! A little samba dance. Too close for comfort. Right-to-left, they have been working on this at her Academy to give her more options off the tee. No spin. Birdie finish. No. That has been a familiar sight for Lydia today. Her putts just nudging the whole but not going in. She will finish with a two under par 69. A back nine of 33. Including one very dramatic moment we are she holed out from 135m For in Eagle. Larsson from Denmark with 67. Carlota Ciganda 68. Lexi Thompson 68. Germany 69. Piller two under 69. You are two under. In touch with the leaders. A good recovery. You would to over in the front nine. With the way the course is playing for the men and earlier on, the front nine was the more scoreable nine. To finish two under for the day I am pleased. I left a few putts out there. But you feel like that all the time. It was a solid start. Under par in the first round of the limits Captions were made possible with funding from The National Foundation for the Deaf. Text GOLD to 4847 to make a $3 donation to the cause. Coming right on the back of the field, there is the Rumanian making her way upnear the front of the race. She has got itself to the lead. She was seven when they joined she leads sharpe and Diego. Terzic at the back of the tail. Just a couple of 100 inside 60 seconds. Excellent running from the Romanian. She was to make sure she is in exactly the right place to strike. No place from the Frenchwoman, she need to make a move. Lindsay Sharp beginning to dominate the price. Cuba coming up into third. Remember, only 2 will advance. Lindsay Sharp blades. Diego in second. Terzic and come from a mile back and put herself up in front. Sharp in front, Serbian running really well. Very nicely judged by the Serbian. Sharp always had the race in control. The young lady from Great Britain looked comfortable. Sharp and Terzic get the qualifying spots. We're going to have the men's javelin. Taking place, qualifying group a automatic qualifying at 83m. That will be a challenge for a few of these guys in the competition. Not because it is a long distance, but just because it always is. There are always casualties and people who expected to perform well and crumble under tension and pressure but the qualifying rounds bring. Stuart Farquhar of New Zealand in the first roun. Just short of 75m. Shakes his head a little bit. Collapse the little at the end. Let's look at the single take that back nicely and they sign on Clinchers that left side. Always going to come down a little sooner when it is that low. (APPLAUSE) come on! (APPLAUSE) (MUSIC PLAYS) (APPLAUSE) Captions were made possible (SHOUTS) Come on! (APPLAUSE) (MUSIC PLAYS) Stuart Farquhar, not quite enough today. Not quite enough, no. I lived in the warmup and didn't really capitalise in the first three throws. Very disappointed. Very disappointed. The new pinpoint what it was, in particular, we're just not feeling at? Just and the full speed. And has been awhile since I went at that made. I couldn't hold my position.
