The headquarters of the sailing. The Olympic regatta in its final day. There are 40 boats down there waiting to get into action as we have four medal races to come. All sorts of action will take place out here for the medals that aren't sorted out. He is the medal race. Four seconds from the start. The medal race in the 49ers. It was a big move. I think the Germans may well have done a penalty. The second-place getter overall for medals, came under attack from Great Britain. Talk about using your elbows at the start. Unbelievable. Germany with work to do. Yes, Great Britain got penalised. I wonder if it was for pre-start. Peter Burling and Blair Tuke, superstars of the sport. It is the New Zealanders in the lead. New Zealand delay line. They tack. New Zealand are the right-of-way boat. France and that is bouying, required to keep clear. The Olympic champions in the lead at the first mark. Wonderful young guys. They are already in the America's Cup. They are not completely immune to people having a crack at them. The French were sixth in the world in 2013. What a way to finish this Olympic regatta. New Zealand are first into the zone. There is the top mark for the last time. The crew work is another feature for New Zealand, Burling and Tuke. Immediately out on the trapeze. This is weird Burling's height advantage works. It is choreographed. It is Burling and Tuke. For four years, they have won four world Championships, four European Championships. Every major international championship in the 49er class has gone to New Zealand. I think we have another lap. I didn't see the number of laps prior to the start of this one. But there is a course change as they come into the bottom mark. The New Zealanders have a nice little lead over France. The New Zealanders looking absolutely awesome once again. The faster these things go, the more manoeuvrable they are. Three laps for the 49ers. We got a bonus lap in for Burling and Tuke. Attention to detail and crew work. Giant set. They have a pretty handy lead. we see the New Zealand flag. Here come the New Zealanders. As Peter Burling and Blair Tuke. They come straight through the line to take gold. Burling and Tuke carry the New Zealand flag into the stadium. They carry the hopes of a nation. That to find New Zealanders will go on to win gold for New Zealand in the 49er class. Be proud, Kiwis. These are your Olympic champions. Peter Burling and Blair Tuke now set up to come over the line. They are a fantastic combination. They still have a few metres to go. Gold in Rio to the New Zealanders! A huge moment for Burling and Tuke, names for the future. This last four years has just been preparation for the big moment. This was that moment. They came home in the race utterly dominant. They have dominated once again. Denmark coming home. Here come Australia, the big New Zealand rivals. Will there be a silver medal? A switch around from four years ago. Outteridge and Jensen, here in the waters of Rio. New Zealand take the gold, Australia the silver. You didn't have to go hard, and you absolutely pasted everyone. We put down the performance we wanted to. We are just trying to cheer the girls on right now as we have the race happening. We are on top of the world. The capsise at the end, a touch of class. We just held our breaths. For all the fans and everyone watching back home, we are so happy. It was obvious that this combination would take the medal. We thought they may just relax, having done at all. Burling and Tuke, arguably the best sailors in the world right now. Congratulations from Barbara Kendall. They are a breath of fresh air in sailing. They are very humble. They are very very fast out in the course. Great role models for youth. Four consecutive world titles, and now the Olympic title as well. CAPTIONS WERE MADE POSSIBLE WITH FUNDING FROM THE NATIONAL FOUNDATION FOR THE DEAF. TEXT GOLD TO 4847 TO MAKE A $3 DONATION TO THE CAUSE. COPYRIGHT ABLE 2016. The good strong approach to the top mark by the USA. They took a break from the partnership, and they have got themselves together once more and looking very strong in this medal race for the women's 470. The comeback by the Kiwis. Aleh made a very good final approach to the top mark. They are getting rolled here by the boats on the Windward side. Very good approach to the top mark. Powrie, Aleh have been covered up by the French. Poles still in contention. Can they get the silver medal? They are in fourth. The Japanese are going well. Just with the wind on the water, it looked quite patchy. Patchy in terms of wind on the water. Britain 1, as far as we can see, double points in the medal race. Race with silver is between in New Zealand and the USA. The USA had to tack and give way to Slovenia. There's opened up for an opportunity to New Zealand. This is ideal conditions, for New Zealanders with the offshore breeze. They took advantage of that right-hand pressure and shift aas we now approach the halfway up the last windward leg for them. New Zealand are being affected by Lavinia in terms of performance and airflow. Tactically, they have the Americans and compromised position. Americans cannot tack and cross. Now Slovenia will go. USA will come with them. USA the meat in the sandwich. Can the USA pin New Zealanders and stop them coming starboard, Aucklander New Zealanders reduce the gauge between the USA and themselves and put turbulence on to themselves? Slovenia come through first. Slovenia got something nice. I am looking for New Zealand in the USA close to the top mark. Look at that! Both coming in from the left have right of way. I did not see any foul. New Zealand have got around America. The USA are behind New Zealand now. We will update as the points - we will get the fleet round before we look at the overall. Great Britain in the lead, New Zealand second, USA third. MEDAL changing position. For the silver at the moment, the teams to watch are New Zealand and USA Japanese in for the shot with the medal they will start influencing each other. The gold medal is tucked away for Great Britain. They are sitting back and just watching this and not influencing the game. New Zealand coming over the top. The wind from the New Zealand boat is afflicting the airflow of the Polish boat. French not out of it either. Sixth. At the moment, but it is so close, particularly for bronze. New Zealand and silver medal position trying to hold on. Poland is fighting back. Here comes Japan. This is fascinating. Look at this mark. This hotel a silver and bronze. Slovenia will win a race. They will not win the medal. New Zealand is next around the mark. Netherlands are just ahead, which means New Zealand irony silver medal position. Overall, it is Great Britain, but Slovenia take the race. Brilliant stuff from the Slovenians. Way ahead of the rest. The Dutch are coming home second. That is good enough for a bronze, I think, but I will not guarantee that because France are in the two. They are fighting just behind them. Here come the New Zealanders. That is good enough for silver for New Zealand, but what will happen for bronze? For bronze, we look at the points. It is showing France up for the bronze as they come over the line. Silver medal for New Zealand. Jo Aleh and Polly Powrie. Absolutely colossal battle for silver and bronze here. New Zealand silver, France bronze, Goal for Great Britain. PA: silver medallists, representing New Zealand! (MAN SPEAKS PORTUGESE) Jo Aleh and Polly Powrie from New Zealand take silver. Gold medallists in London 2012, silver medallists here in Rio after a shaky start to the regatta, they consolidated and a wonderful comeback to take out the silver medal. The Olympic champions of 2012 this occasion have to give way. The position have reversed after a very fine series of races. A terrible start. The GB team, they are out of the race. They must've hit the committee boat. A disastrous start. The wing touched the back of the boat. Penalty against Great Britain. In the middle of the course, we can see New Zealand. Spain, who did not have a good start, are coming in very well. Henson and Iversen. New Zealand are level with the other teams. Good speed with the Kiwis. New Zealand are at a perfect lay line. A really defining moment for the New Zealanders, Because they are ahead of Brazil and Denmark. Who beats who? That is how the medals will fall. Coming in at speed, the Brazilians. Inside is Germany and the Danes. The New Zealanders have a good lead. The right-hand going up, and you want to be on the left going down. The Spanish have gone out to the right-hand side. Those four are in contention. The Italians are there as spoilers. This is a carbon copy! The men did it, and now the women have done the same! There is a spin out! The USA got themselves in a tailspin back there. Let's head back out to the front Where the medals are being decided. New Zealand are looking strong. Here are the world champions of 2015. Maybe they will get a medal today. They came here with a lot of expectations on their shoulders, And at least they can go home and say they won the medal race possibly. There is another lap to do. He comes Italy into the bottom mark. The world champions from 2015 are leading, coming into the bottom mark gate. Incredibly close between New Zealand and Brazil. New Zealand still leading over Brazil. 14 seconds between that mark. The world number ones, chasing New Zealand. This is the last lap as they go in for the final time. Only six seconds between them. The big risk here is that there is so much separation between the boats. If there is a big wind shift, either of them could benefit. they have gone all the way out of that far side. The New Zealanders are coming along with the Italians, who are winning the race but not in medal contention. When the boats converge with each other, it could be the winning of the Olympics here in Rio. It is New Zealand. It is the next cross between New Zealand and Brazil. It is looking like that on the advantage. New Zealand have gone beyond the lay line. Brazil look strong! This is a chess game on the water. There go the Brazilians. It is Brazil who have the local knowledge, And they appear to be in the lead. It is Brazil who have come from behind, As they tack around 5. It is down to the wire! Who is It going to be? They are straight through to the line! They have a boat length of advantage. Can they beat the flying Kiwis? Look at all the Brazilian flags that are flying. Team Brazil. The Brazilian sailor looks like she might get the gold medal. The New Zealanders having given up, but they are trailing. Here come the Brazilians! They will just make this. It will be gold to Brazil! They are sailing deep. Brazil come down towards the line. Brazil take gold; New Zealand take silver. An unbelievable race. A 49er victory for the Kiwi men. But it is the local girls who take gold in the open waters. The results. The Spaniard could not get herself a medal. Pa: silver medallists representing New Zealand. The silver medals in the end going to this young New Zealand combination, The final in 2014 going their way too. They have spent a lot of time on the start in recent months. They were leading for so much of the way, until the penultimate leg. They have spent a lot of time on the start, you could say. But what about the finish? CAPTIONS WERE MADE POSSIBLE WITH FUNDING FROM THE NATIONAL FOUNDATION FOR THE DEAF. TEXT GOLD TO 4847 TO MAKE A $3 DONATION TO THE CAUSE. COPYRIGHT ABLE 2016. Rather covered by cloud, not be than sunshine as I was for the first three days of competition and canoe sprint. Second medal competition for canoe sprint. As you can see, a little bit of movement on the water. When speed is low. Here is the lineup. Jorgensen of Denmark, Weber of Germany. Lisa Carrington a favourite, already a gold medallist. Promises to be a great final. Lisa Carrington bidding to become the first woman to win two gold medals and then individual canoe sprint event at a single games. Carrington in 2 Jorgensen and three. Lisa Carrington sitting well there. Everyone fighting back, here comes the Hungarian, surging past. On the far side, there. A four way battle between Jorgensen, Kozak and Carrington this is the midpoint of the rise. Coming Very strongly. The Hungarian making a bid for gold with the Belarusian in second place. Carrington has a huge amount of work to do to get the second gold. Surely she is out of it. Carrington appears to have given up the ghost. She increases the advantage over the Belarusian. Hungary as one, Belarus to. Now Carrington just beginning to come through, but she has far too much to make up to take the title. It will be Kozak of Hungary. It is now approaching a length and a half. Perhaps Carrington might even get the bronze. No doubt about the winner. That was emphatic from Kojak. Powerful victory. The from Kozak. Four Olympic gold medals, double Olympic champion of 2012 and double champion here in 2016. Litvinchuck pushed her out early, but there was no stopping her surging away to a clear lead. Won a victory. Very close for second and third. Looks like Jorgensen from Denmark has taken second and Lisa Carrington adds a second medal to these games, taking the bronze. There was a brave fightback from here right at the back of the field. She is so strong in the second half. Two medals at the same games - what an amazing achievement. Kozak is amazing, she didn't race last year, so to see her this year is amazing. Your goal was to golds and the nation was behind you, but this event was so close. . It is tough. An Olympic year, everyone steps up. We were all fighting for second. Amazing achievement. I am sure back at the North Shore Canoe club, there will be a loss of Cheers for that medal. SAMBA MUSIC the best throw from the first 3 throws will end up going last. Those eight athletes will end up with three throws. Here he is, the young rising star out of Auckland, New Zealand. Jacko Gill. Over the 20 m mark. It is a good start for Gill. He is an athlete that does like to build through the competition. He will need to make some adjustments. Just getting the right leg out there. It is the legs that give them all the power. Walsh, the current indoor champion. Just under the 21 m mark. That pretty much says that he is not really that happy with that. 20.54, Tom Walsh. Gill, the second throw. 21-year-old from New Zealand, One of two New Zealanders in this 12. He threw a personal best in qualifying, 20.83. There is a good throw for him. He is starting to get some momentum. 20.5 m. Walsh, who won his first Diamond league this year. He has his second throw. There is better from him. Just a little bit more of a tweak, he says. Won in Stockholm this year at the Diamond league. improvement there. 21-year-old Gill currently sits in seventh. Desperately hoping that he can go beyond 20.5. He just threw that in his previous throw. If he does that, he will get a further three. Just over the 20 m. He will be disappointed with that. When he is not throwing the shotput, he grows chillis. He said one day he would like to become a chilli farmer. Chillis, originally from Mexico. Walsh will be wanting to get around the 21.50 mark. It is a good throw from him! The red flag goes up though! The red flag for Tom Walsh! Such a fine line. So close and yet so far away. We won't yet know how far that was. Gill will finish in ninth place. Walsh, he won a gold medal and first New Zealand athlete to win an indoor championship. Good throw from Walsh. He moves himself up into third. I don't think he thinks he has. We will need to wait. It looked good. And he will move into the bronze medal position with that throw! The New Zealander in his first Olympic Games has a chance of picking up a bronze medal! The big American. Another great throw, Close to an Olympic record. What a night! You talk about being in the zone, this man is well and truly in the zone. Enormous. Genuinely explosive power. A new Olympic record! 22.52. A record that has stood back since 1988. 24 years of age. 3 throws remain after this. It is a good throw, but I think it is below his best throw of the night. The body language says it all. 21.25. Now for the man from the Congo. He needs to prove his best throw by 17 cm. It will be a big ask, but it is capable. There is well short. Too much pressure from the Congo Republic. He can take great pride. There is a national record. The great news for New Zealand, you have just won a bronze medal! Walsh has got himself on the podium. He wasn't even in the Olympic games last time. 124 kg! Gold medallist in the men's shotput. What a remarkable night. There he is. A very humble, quietly spoken athlete. A dream come true. Just confirming the results, The Americans go one and two. The New Zealander Walsh with the bronze. The world champion will have to wait another four years. Here are the stars of the future. PA: representing New Zealand, Thomas Walsh! Taking a bronze is Thomas Walsh of New Zealand. Second in qualifying. A first time Olympian and indoor champion. He threw wonderfully well to get Into the bronze medal. He had a fantastic battle with the Man from the Congo. A very proud New Zealander taking their bronze medal.
