(samba music) (fireworks boom) (orchestral music) (CHEERING) Rio it is an invitation to celebrated beauty and diversity as we take a trip from the perspective of birds flying around the city's landmarks. (upbeat drumming music) (singing in Portuguese) choreography is forming iconic Rio landmarks. Christ the Redeemer statue is at the top of those mountains. TheRe is Christ the Redeemer. (CHEERING) (upbeat samba music) you can take the tram up to the mountain, and it is an overwhelming experience of natural beauty. The mountains in the background and the Atlantic Ocean. The natural beauty is at times overwhelming. (samba music) (singing in Portuguese) (upbeat music) (CHEERING) Sugarloaf Mountain, one of the world's greatest natural beauties. It features and thousands of people's photos. The cable car was built in 1912. (singing in Portuguese) this band is very famous inside and out of Brazil. SAMBA MUSIC The athletes will enter the arena together, but first we recognise the flagbearers of the nations. Some of the great stories of the games and some of the best performing athletes for their nations have been giving the honour of carrying the flags for the closing ceremonies. Simone Biles from the united states of America. The way she performed her floor routine was exceptional. It was an Olympic Games for the teenagers. 100m freestyle was won. The flagbearer for Canada is just 16 years old. Athletics was gotten underway by a fantastic win in the 10,000 m. South Africa achieved a gold medal through Caster Semenya. What an Olympic games team Great Britain has had and carrying the flag is Kate Richardson Walsh, a hockey player. They have won Great Britain's first-ever hockey gold medal. They are the first ever country to win more medals after hosting. Lisa Carrington is carrying the flag for New Zealand, a canoe gold medallist. The athletes will start coming into the arena as well. 11,544 athletes took part in these games in Rio. They march together. That is celebrating the diversity and the culture that exists here in South America. this marching together of athletes in the closing ceremony commenced in Melbourne when a schoolboy wrote a letter to the Olympic Committee when he asked why shouldn't the athletes marched together in the opening ceremony? It has taken place like that since that time. SAMBA MUSIC CONTINUES Carrying the flag for India, as we see more of the athletes coming in. She is the first female to win a medal for India. It is interesting to see how many athletes are carrying mobile phones. They are trying to capture moments for posterity. Just about every athlete has a camera up or a cellphone to try and capture a shot of something they certainly will not forget. The Olympic ideals are spreading across the world now. A record 10 nations have won gold medals for the first time. Fiji with the men's rugby sevens. Vietnam, Kosovo, Bahrain, Jordan and of course the IOC independent flag. A 21 your old won the 100 m butterfly from Singapore, beating Michael Phelps. And Fiji had a national holiday. Fiji had the first ever Olympic medal and it was a gold. One of the most enthralling finishers was in tae kwon do. Kosovo is one of two delegations competing as independent along with South Sudan. My experience of clothing ceremonies as an athlete, correction: closing ceremony is that the party will go on for some time. Did you have shoes like that? The music changes and the flagbearers make way. RAPID MUSIC The proceedings are still being watched over by the Olympic cauldron. ANNOUNCER SPEAKS FRENCH PA: ladies and gentlemen, the athletes of the 31st Olympiad! The athletes are now seated in the arena. Clay formed by the decomposition of rocks and it is what Brazilians have used to model clay figurines the audience are dancing to this music by one of the Kings of music in Brazil. (upbeat music) the dance they are doing is the forro which is derived from the English 'for all'. They say this dance might originate from the American military bases there were in Brazil during the Second World War. All had to come through and dance and everyone joined in. (upbeat music) (singing in Portuguese) they are coming to life to dance to the song. It is a good job the rain has stopped, because the clay would melt.
