A threat to beaches, the harbour, estuaries and small boat activities. Severity of the currents and water flows will vary with coastal areas. Current assessments indicate a rising tides And coastal areas or flooding of land areas near the shore is not expected but this may change. Waves were around 30 cm and detected on the East Cape and great barrier island. People in coastal areas should `- if the beach threat is forecast for your area, take appropriate evasive action. If you feel shaking which is too strong or over 1 minutes in duration, move to higher ground immediately. This will remain in effect until a cancellation is issued by civil defence. This has also affected the roads. Britomart station has just reopened. There will be long delays across the network this morning. A quake of the East Cape results in rolling tsunami threats for much of the North island. More than 30 after-shocks have been recorded following a 7.1 magnitude earthquake around 430 this morning East Coast. First waves detected on the East Cape And great barrier island shortly after. Residents along the East Cape coastline have self evacuated to higher ground. Tsunami warning is expected to be observed for a couple of hours. Warnings have been lifted for the upper South island. South island residents have now been told they can return home. That does not mean the activity has not ceased. they are likely to have experienced a maximum wave height but you must still stay out of the waterways and listen to local authorities. You will know by now that there has been a strong earthquake of the East Cape Which resulted in tsunami warnings for the North of the North island. The quake struck at 437 this morning. There has been tsunami activity already with the 30 cm surge on the East Cape And Great Barrier Island. The threat is real and people should stay away from shorelines and estuaries. East Cape residents are asked to watch for official updates. There are Marine and beach threat warnings. That is from Northland to Mahia peninsula. This is not just about one big wave, it's about unpredictable currents. More on the earthquake right now. The Ministry of civil defence and emergency management has issued a Marine and beach threat warning unpredictable water flows near the shore. The greatest tsunami activity has passed, But some areas will still experience strong currents And sealevel fluctuations which may continue for some time. Public transport in Auckland has been disrupted as a result of the earthquake. Buses and ferries are fine, But there are severe delays to trains. There is around half an hour delay. As a precaution after this in any warnings, The lines were closed between Newmarket and Britomart. The lines has since reopened And the tsunami warnings had been lifted So train services are expected to resume Back to normal at about 10 a.M.. But the backlog is still occurring. The trains are packed. The tsunami warning has been cancelled, so everyone can breathe a sigh of relief. No one has been hurt.
